Protocol.

The President of the Republic of Finland and the Central Executive Committee of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics,
inspired by the desire to assure as solid basis as possible for the development of relations between their countries,
desiring to give to each other a new proof of the immutability and solidity of the prosperously established peaceful and friendly relations between them,
animated by the desire to contribute to maintaining of the General Peace, and in this way to the stability and peaceful development of relations between countries in Eastern Europe, and
finding, that the concluded Treaty, signed on January 21, 1932, at Helsinki between Finland and the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics has exerted a beneficial influence on their relations and on the solution of above mentioned problems,
have decided to sign the present Protocol, and have designated for this their Plenipotentaries, namely

For the President of the Republic of Finland:

Baron Aarno Yrjö-Koskinen, Extraordinary Envoy and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland at Moscow,

For the Central Executive Committee of the Socialist Soviet Republics

Maxime Maximovitch Litvinoff, Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Socialist Soviet Republics, People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs;

who, after examining their full powers, which were found in good and due form, have agreed upon the following provisions:

First article.
As a change to the provisions concerning the date and the conditions of expiration of the Treaty of non-aggression and peaceful settlement of disputes, concluded on January 21, 1932, at Helsinki between Finland and the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics, the provisions described in the article 8 of the said Treaty, this Treaty will remain in force up to December 31, 1945.

Article II.
The present Treaty is drawn up in duplicate in French. The present Treaty shall be ratified and the instruments of ratification shall be exchanged between the High Contracting Parties at Helsinki.
The present Treaty shall enter into force at the moment of the exchange of the instruments of ratification.
In faith thereof, the plenipotentiaries has signed the present Treaty and have attached their seals on it.

The instruments of ratification were exchanged at Helsinki 19 December 1934.
